This morning we explored the handful of sights in what was formerly known as the ancient city of Philadelphia, which housed one of the largest public forums and theaters of the Roman Empire. Now Philadelphia has become downtown Amman, where the sights (King Hussein Mosque, the Nymphaeum, Roman Theater, and the Citadel), took not even an hour and a half to see.
Afterwards the obligatory (and very quick) sightseeing, we headed towards downtown Wahadat station for only 5 JOD via cab. Then another 5 JOD by minibus (3 hours) to Petra. It was pretty straightforward, but I think you’ll have a harder time finding a willing cab driver to get that far south to Wahadat Station than finding the minibus itself.
The ride through the desert was…well…just like what you get from the movies.
And what’s Petra? “A rose red city, half as old as time.” AKA, the location of the Holy Grail in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade:
- At time of posting in Wadi Rum, it was 68 °F -
Humidity: 68% | Wind Speed: 13km/hr | Cloud Cover: clear
